Fulfillment cannot be found in the things of this world

September 5, 2022

Fulfillment is the process of living a valued life where one pursue things that matter to them or that they are passionate about. What is your fulfillment?  I will go first. I’m sure many of you have caught on by now (i.e. through previous posts) that my career was my place of fulfillment.  At least, I thought it was.  While I enjoy what I do, I no longer crave getting to the next level.  At one time, seeking this path became destructive to my health.  All I did was breath, eat, sleep, and speak about my career.

In 2016, I felt a shift.  I had the opportunity to speak at a women’s conference.  I was assigned a topic on financial planning.  Long story short, I was a nervous wreck.  You know, I just wanted to make a good impression and thankfully I did.  I receive a lot of positive feedback.  It was a very liberating experience.  A group of women was listening to me as I talked about financial planning and linking that message to biblical principles.  When I left from there, I remember turning to my cousin who was the organizer of the conference and said, “I really enjoyed this and would like to continue doing more of this.”

From that hot August day in 2016 up until now, I’ve had a yearning to teach God’s word based on my relationship with God.  It was like I couldn’t escape the feeling.  It’s funny because I’ve never, ever, wanted to serve God’s kingdom in this capacity. I just didn’t want the responsibility.  For anyone that knows me personally, they know that “worry” was often my middle name.

Serving Christ in that capacity felt like an overwhelming task. In addition to feeling like I wouldn’t be able to function in such a way that he intended (i.e., I know, that’s a lot of unpacking but we will save that for another post). Anyhow, the conversation I had with God about this craving to teach His word is what led me to start this blog. I am experiencing fulfillment in a way I didn’t even know was available to me.

There are so many people walking the earth who are unfulfilled.  Tools that are at our disposal to help identify the void and fill it doesn’t amount to a hill of beans if we haven’t established a relationship with Christ.  To be clear it’s not the teaching that is fulfilling me; it’s the discovery of God’s purpose for me that brought about a nearness to him that I’ve never tapped into.  It was and is the journey that he and I are on together; that is fulfilling.

Teaching is just the avenue he used.  If we don’t open our heart and receive the gift of Jesus Christ and continuously stay connected to him, you and I will both will constantly be searching for the next thing to fulfill us.  There is no amount of anything in this world that will satisfy you or I; only Jesus Christ. As Christians we can get into the rut of just performing Christian “duties” to the extent that we have missed the entire experience of Jesus Christ.

Stop missing out.  Stop waking up every morning feeling like crap because you are not where you think you should be.  When you establish your identity in the one who made you it’s only upward bound from there.  The only way to reach that pivotal moment is through relationship. What are you waiting for?  Begin today to be fulfilled.

P.S. I am not a preacher.  Just sharing the gospel as a joyful witness.

Ease & Stillness,
