About Me

My name is Chetoca Barfield

I was born and raised in a small town located in Eastern North Carolina with my parents and 2 siblings; an older brother and a younger sister. Growing up in my household, my parents had a rule for my siblings and me. If we didn’t attend church on Sundays, we couldn’t go anywhere for the rest of the day. Needless to say we were in church every Sunday, or at least it felt like we were. While I didn’t appreciate going to church as much as I did at that time, I’m thankful that I did.

It was through my Sunday school teacher that I learned how to develop a relationship with God vs. focusing on religious affiliation rules. As I’ve grown in my walk with Christ, this pivotal lesson has helped me through many difficult moments. As a young child I had dreams of becoming a lawyer. There wasn’t anything that sparked this interest, but I knew at an early age I was pretty good at research and explaining how things came to be from the point of entry to the point of exit. When I became a senior in high school, I decided I would pursue criminal justice studies at Elizabeth City State University (i.e., ECSU) with hopes of having a career as a criminal prosecutor.

My freshman year in college was an experience of its own. For the first time in my life I wasn’t governed by rules and restrictions. It was left up to me to make my own decisions on how to be Chetoca and how I wanted to show up in the world. Like all freshman, I was trying to figure things out: class schedules, work study, and parties. Yep, parties had to be a major part of the college experience. By the time I felt comfortable with being in my own skin and navigating college on my own… there he was my dream guy.

I knew the moment I saw him walk out of the café I was going to marry him. I know, I know, but it’s the truth. Michael (my husband) and I didn’t begin dating until one year later. It’s funny how things happen. In 2000 I graduated from ECSU and began working in corporate America as a customer service representative. During this time, I was simultaneously studying to take the LSAT to enter law school. In 2003 Michael and I wed. Marriage was new, fun, and enjoyable.

As a newlywed, I made the decision to no longer pursue law school and build a career in corporate America. While I enjoyed working in corporate America, I knew staying in a customer service role wasn’t my “forever” career choice. My hope was to move up the corporate ladder. In 2006 I received my MBA degree and at the same time my corporate career was taking off. For the next 15 years I’ve thrived promotionally which included an unexpected path of mentoring.

I’ve had the pleasure of mentoring many colleagues and peers from a career development perspective. I must say this was an un-disclose passion that I didn’t know I had until I was knee deep in. As time progressed, mentoring evolved into helping individuals, couples and friend groups navigate life challenges. When COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020 all our lives were altered. The daily routines that were once in place were replaced with social isolation, mental health challenges, social injustice, and doubting faith.

The need of having a healthy support system was magnified and this need led to the birth of Treasured Possession. Treasured Possession is a life coaching community created to provide encouragement, support, and tools to equip the body of Christ to lead healthy lives in mind, body, and spirit. The name Treasured Possession comes from Deuteronomy 7:6 (ESV) “For you are a holy people to the Lord your God; The Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.”

You & I are His most Treasured Possession.

At some point in our lives, we all need to be assured that we are not left alone to deal with the day-to-day challenges that life can sometimes bring. As your life coach, I'm here to support you in the area(s) you are needing help with to show up in life as your best self.

Mission

A life coaching community was created to help people activate their faith by aligning their circumstance to biblical truths to create actionable steps to reach their goals. Proverbs 27:17 says, “As iron sharpens iron so one person sharpens another."

FAQ's

It is a one-on-one, collaborative process in which a trained professional (the coach) helps you (the client) achieve your personal life goals. These goals can include just about anything (i.e. spirituality, career changes, life events, procrastination and productivity, etc.)

This depends on how open you are to coaching and implementing what you have learned in a healthy and effective way.

Coaching is to help individuals achieve personal goals. Therapy is intended to help people recover from emotional or other psychological disorders such as depression or anxiety.

A Christian Life coach approaches coaching from a Godly perspective, based on God’s word. Christian life coaching helps you operate from a foundation of faith in God using biblical truths to bring about change God’s way.

People who desires to focus on God’s plan for their life and live life God’s way. People who want to make changes, but struggle to get beyond the first steps.  Coaching will help you to get unstuck and help you to get the breakthrough you’ve been hoping for.

Simply put no, but within my coaching sessions I do use biblical truths and principles as a form of encouragement; NOT as a form of judgment. The most important part here is finding the right coach whose beliefs line up with or coexist with your own spiritual beliefs. This way, finding solutions and overcoming obstacles will be much more of a rewarding and effective process.
